Is it a Hawkmoth caterpillar?

Hi Linda, I thought maybe one of the swallowtail butterflies. But not sure which one

Had a look in my butterfly and moth booklet and the nearest I could get was the Elephant Hawk moth. Interesting to find out what it is.

Is the caterpillar in your book green? I googled the elephant Hawk moth catepillar and they seems to be different color.

It's a watercolour picture in my book and more a browny green than this bright green one. It will be interesting to find out what this caterpillar turns into. There is a butterfly conservation society on the net, might be an idea to send them the photo of the caterpillar.
