You're an amazing photographer! I have many Anna Hummingbirds all over my yard; however, I can rarely take their photos, they're just too fast.

We have Anna's on the Island as well but not here. This one is a "violet capped" hummingbird .It is bigger than Anna's.
Thank you for your compliment.

Maybe the violet capped hummingbirds are slightly slower. lol!

Do the Anna hummingbirds stay in your are all year? I thought they only stayed in California all year.

They stay on Vancouver Island all year Delonix1. But I do not know exactly if it is Anna's or Rufous or both... they look very similar. I hope our neighbour is feeding them so we have many when we'll come back. I understand that the winter up there is mild (so far)

There must be a lot of food for them on Vancouver Island for them to stay there all year. I'm not sure exactly how many species of hummingbirds live here. I'll have to look it up. I'm only most familiar with the Annas.

I just read there's 5 species of hummingbirds which stay in San Diego all year.

We have some winter flowering shrubs up there but nothing like in your part of the world.

Yes, we have many flowering tropical/subtropical trees which bloom in winter. My favorite winter-flowering tree (especially for hummingbirds) is the Hong Kong Orchid tree (Bauhinia x blakeana). The flowers are huge and very sweetly fragrant. It's widely used as a street tree here in San Diego.

I just posted a picture of a tree which I think is bauhinia. Could you please identify it for me?
