Spathodea campanulata - African Tulip Tree

Spathodea campanulata - African Tulip Tree (Spathodea campanulata - African Tulip Tree)

I rarely ever post a photo of this tree out of bloom. This does bloom magnificently during summer and fall. Photo taken at the Paradise Point Resort, San Diego, CA.

It has beautiful bark and flowers. I'm going to post a photo of this tree in bloom back in Oct of 2010 (which was the last time I took a photo of it in bloom).

Yes, it's one of my favorite flowering trees after Delonix regia (Royal Poinciana) and Erythrina falcata (Brazilian Coral Tree).

My African Tulip tree has grown pretty quickly and blooms very well (most of the year). It's full of flower buds (already) and this is the first time it's had flower buds so early. Typically my tree starts to bloom the first week in May. I have a feeling it will be blooming by early April this year (or maybe earlier).

Here's a photo of D. regia:

The first one is like nothing I ever saw! Completely amazing, certainly a show stopper!

Delonix regia (Royal Poinciana) is the most showy flowering tree in the world. It can only be grown in very warm tropical/subtropical climates. It actually grows best in hot, tropical monsoonal climates.
