It may take up to 10 years to bloom and each plant blooms only once. After flowering the mother plant dies and offsets take its place.

No, it's a mango tree. You can tell the difference in the leaves. Mango leaves are long and narrow...avocado leaves are much wider. Different varieties of mango and avocados have slightly different leaves. Also, the flowers on mango trees are upright and then hand down...avocado flowers tend to droop.

I just made a comment in the previous photo about them flowering here in SD. LOL!
The stem does not die. It actually branches out. This Agave grows wild everywhere here in San Diego just like many other ones. I like this one because the leaf tips are soft.
I like the mango tree in the background flowering. It's too bad they're not flushing with new growth! Have you seen a mango tree flush with new growth? They're spectacular, with their burgundy leaves!
