Many Naked Coral trees are in full bloom, already. The ones in Balboa Park are just starting to bloom, though. Photo taken on Mar. 11, 2013.

Yes, it looses its leaves just before flowering and showing off the scarlet flowers.

Yes, most tropical and subtropical trees do this. Examples are: Jacaranda, Delonix, Tabebuia, Erythrina, and there's many more.
