Abutilon loves the winters here in San Diego. They grow and bloom very well when the weather is cooler. Photo taken Mar. 11, 2013.

It's actually a shrub. It can grow pretty tall in a good environment.
This plant loves a lot of water. It's not really hardy, but can tolerate quite a bit of cold.

Thanks Delonix, I did see it growing as standard and I would like to grow it that form.

When I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area I had many Abutilon species/varieties. They would grow very quickly to 12ft (4m) or taller. They loved the soil and more rain than we receive here in San Diego...and bloomed, grew better all year.

I love this tree Delonix, it is on my short list of plants for next summer. I think we can grow them on Vancouver island. I do see them in garden centers. We live very close to the water so the winters are moderate. I hope they like lots of winter rain. I will put it on the slope.
I love the Tangerine.
