It looks so neat and tidy Sandra I'm afraid mine is beginning to become overcrowded as the plants have spread , problem is I'm half afraid to tip it out for fear of losing something precious that only surfaces at certain times of the year ...

Sandra? Amy.........we did ours last Autumn and planted up what we could and binned the rest, I think the vine weevil had eaten a lot of the plant roots....
Louisa and Paul thanks the Alpines are OH s.......

The sink garden looks really nice Dotty. Vine weevils do a lot of damage. You can get some vine weevil killer that you mix with water and water into the pots but I can't remember the name.

He's made a wonderful job of it too. I was very tempted to buy one of these in the week, but I resisted. I have no idea where I would have put it!

Lindak we have just done it again!! still finding the little blighters!!
K this is an old victorian sink, OH has covered it, as it was white porcelain and looked awful, we must have had it 30 years now....we have another but that is cream, which is more easy on the eye, we had 7 at one time, but we had a larger garden then........
Thanks San, OH loves his alpines, as do I.

You know, looking at it again, it really is lovely. I love the shallow depth and the big size. I love the idea of making a 'miniature' garden in it! I still might get something and have a go. I could put it on my gravel seating area of course, in the sunshine! But I shan't pay the prices they are asking for a trough...I'll buy something like this and cover it myself...it looks great!

Go for it K, you can still find old sinks, funnily enough our local nurseries was selling new white ones, to be covered.
The secret is to protect them over the winter, it is the wet that usually kills the alpines, not the cold, loads of grit, and free draining, and slate or rock for the plants to grow over, they make a lovely feature.

Thank you. We suffer from a total lack of reclaimed stuff up here. There are no outlets for that, so not easy to find old sinks etc.
