As I promised, I uploaded today a photo of a lilac, which I planted on the bank of the river close to my garden. It is Mmme Lemoine, coming from 1890. It was the first white lilac in the history. Breeder Victor Lemoine named it after his wife Marie.

Brian@These two lilacs grow on the bank of the small river which was coming from bogs some 10 kilometres away. It has had black colour because of that and gave the name to the river. I have never tested pH of the soil on the bank, but it doesn´t seem to be alkalic. To my knowledge, lilacs grow on every soil.

Katarina They live But no not thrive,May be they don't like the Coal two feet below the surface.
Not saying there is a lot but if I set it on fire it would probably burn for a hundred years.

Hm. I do not understand what you wanted to say by this. I know that calcium in soil is advantage, but it is not condition. ;-)
