that is fantastic! love the pot and the shape of the oak, i really should learn how to do these ~ i have masses of acorns and horse chestnuts too i could use!

do you cut the roots at all?

I put in a small pot for 2 years then into the blue pot and cut the roots every other year, it can be done every year if needs be depending how much the roots have grown ~ comb the roots out removing about 2/3rds of soil so they hang down and trim about a third off, the main thing is not to let the plant get pot bound it weakens them quite considerably

its very clever stuff! i think you have to know a lot about them and be very patient but how rewarding ~ bonsai is amazing.

That's brilliant Tubby. I have just had a go at a Silver birch but want to do more. I love the fact that you grew it from an acorn :o)

Thank you Annella, its great fun:-) Silver Birch ~ there are some in the woods behind me, should look very pretty after a few years, I think they grow quite quickly.

I think it possible to Bonsai almost anything, all you need is a lot of patience. The art of shaping the tree is a different matter, thats where the skill comes in although shaping is subjective!!

really like this, Tubby...i started to try some bonsai some years ago, then life got complicated and i lost interest...now my life is lovely and peaceful, and you have inspired me to try my hand with a little lilac i was going to give away...added to favourites...thanks for taking the time to share your method...
