It is also called lacebark pine, Brian. Comes from China amd here it was imported by the founder of arboretum in the 19th century. I made a photo for sure to document it, as the tree looked very unhealthy, maybe it will die soon. I noticed, that many old trees were in a bad condition.

It reminds me of the Plane tree - very attractive. What a pity that the trees are in poor condition.

Melchi@ I do not know, but as the bark was beautiful, the crown of the tree looked "shabby", needles were very sparse - so I think something wrong is with the tree, but maybe it is such sort of tree. As I never saw it before, I made that conclusion. But maybe I am wrong.

I have just googled some images - I don't think it is generally sparse. It certainly is an impressive tree!
