Looking good M, mine has just started. I.coccinea is more forward and is full of flowers, highly reccomended :o)

Is I.coccinea tougher do you think?

All bar one of my I.australis are about to bloom. Got some whites in there too. Not bad in 15 months from seed!

My I.cyanea is a goner - far too tender.

That's nice Meanie.

Thanks SL! I'm rather pleased..................

Not sure if its tougher but flowering earlier at similar temps. Mine was in a heated greenhouse but only just frost free. I.grandiflora is in bud but no flowers yet.

All mine were in the shed with heat set to stay frost free. I.cyanea was huddled up right in the middle of all the I.australis.

Not tried I. cyanea doesn't sound like it would survive my temp. regime either.

PA - I'm tempted to try again. I do wonder if I kept it too dry...............

They are Sticki! Small flowers, but great colour and texture. I have seven and will try to get one to grow in the ground in a sheltered spot. I know of one in rural Kent that is 8 metres now. Said to be the hardiest, and easy outdoors in London apparently.

Does your garden have a wall? Would that provide enough shelter and warmth?

2 Jun, 2013

A wall, and on the north side are next doors bloody huge conifers to provide shelter from the wind and rain.

Grrrrrrrr.........don't you ever wish you had a chain saw?
