I really liked this shrub at Anglesey Abbey today but didn't realise it was from the Abelia Genus so I looked it up! one of the plants at it's best today! unfortunately I chose the wrong time to visit and, to be perfectly honest, found very little of great interest! lots of lovely trees but nothing particularly different to anywhere else! A shame, but I will make a point of visiting again either later in the summer or earlier another year!!!

Yes, maybe Kolkwitzia...as I said in description , I didn't realise it was an Abelia(It looked very much like a Weigelia to me) but found a pic of it labeled as Floribunda which, it would appear is a mistake, but I can't remember where I saw that now.....unfortunately, Anglesey Abbey Gardens had no labels at all on any plants(another thing I didn't like!!)if you google images, there are pictures of this under Dipelta and Kolkwitzia!

You will find they specialise more in Trees and winter colours Paul the colours of the barks and stems also the fabulous coloured lights at Christmas time displayed to show them off , I have done a couple of blogs in the past showing them in colour ... ( Dec 4th Anglesey Abbey ,,A winter light display )... also (Aug 15th 2009 A change from flowers )
they have a good chrysanthemum display but of course not in flower until later in the year , I agree there's not a lot of colour in between ...

Annoying when plants are not labelled but you can't have everything.

Surely this is not A. floribunda? That has tubular red flowers, see e.g. Burncoose and SouthDown nurseries. Looks more Dipelta or Kolkwitztia.
