Climbing roses on fence, and wine grapes.

Climbing roses on fence, and wine grapes.

The yellow rose on the fence is Teasing Georgia; the pink rose on the right is the Harkness Compassion. I have grown this variety for over 30 years; it has beautiful Tea shaped blooms and strong scent. The later flush of flowers has more of a warm apricot tint; in front of these is a row of (Regent) wine-grapes.

How wonderful to have such a mild climate, do you make your own wine from them?:-)

Yes, Bornagain, I do make wine with the grapes; in the last few years, I have made some very good reds, but it depends very much on the season: last year I only made
9 bottles, the previous year I made 24; I have 25 vines, and when all the recently planted vines are fruiting, I have the potential for producing 60 - 70 bottles. I plan to do a blog on vine culture soon. There are some good varieties suitable for the gardener, if you have a warm sunny place; you can grow 1 or 2 vines for eating grapes. Look out for my vine blog, when I get time to do it!
