Salvia reverting (I think)

I had a Salvia nemerosa 'Purple Rain'. I loved it but it was a bit thuggish and last year I thought I had removed it all. However, this spring several shoots appeared at the edge of the lawn in front of where it had been. I was pleased because it meant plants for the Walled Garden where I work, but now it's flowering it has a completely different flower to Purple Rain. Different colour, different form. I think it must have reverted to one of it's parent plants. What do you think?

Its very pretty up close, but from a distance it is quite 'dead nettle' like. But still...a nice plant.

Ooh, isn't that pretty! no, same colour flowers, but it has sage smelling leaves, and the flowers aren't in whorls like that nepeta. They are in spikes. It's definitely salvia...but aren't they similar?I'd never noticed that before! Thanks Keith!

Good enough for me!
There are quite a few that resemble Salvia. Here is my Monarda.................
