The white, pink and red are very commonly grown here. It's an extremely hardy tree. It's not very tender like the tropical Lagerstroemia speciosa - Queen's Crape Myrtle, which isn't very common here in San Diego.

Glad to know that they are hardy. Maybe I will see the flowers one day.

They need quite a bit of heat for flowers.

That might be a problem. Being on the ocean its never warm enough.

Most likely with very little heat it won't bloom so well.

Ours has never flowered, perhaps this year we might get some? it is only small had to cut it right back, because it did not look very healthy!!

Crape Myrtles like a lot of heat to bloom well. I've read about the big heat wave hitting the UK. Most likely you'll get some flowers this year...as they bloom very young.
The hundreds of Crape Myrtles at Liberty Station are pretty old trees...they bloom very heavily.

Fingers crossed then?

I've gotten them to bloom in Michigan, there are a few varieties that will survive as perennials here but they don't wake up until July sometimes. They do need a lot of heat and sun and in cooler areas it helps to keep them in the garage during winter. It helps to cut them back in late winter too, they flower on current season's growth.

Yes, it a heat-loving tree. They are very widely grown throughout most of California.

I love this tree Delonix. I bought a Lagerstroemia indica 'Dynamite' (red) last year and it survived our winter and it looks very healthy but no flowers. Apparently we had a mild winter.
