Beautiful indeed....

This is my "prettiest" daylily. Like it a lot.

Tetrarch:

I've seen many varieties here in San Diego and they all bloom all year long. However, this one I haven't seen. It's very beautiful!

Its fairly new I think

Thanks! I have to see if I can find one.

I do wish ours would bloom all year long! That would be something!!

We're lucky here in San Diego, CA. Our subtropical climate is perfect for many tropical and subtropical plants/trees.

I could say "don't rub it in" lol, but when I think about it Delonix, I love crisp, cold but sunny winter days (when we get them) and I really love Spring, so guess I will put up with day lilies flowering a month or two each year! I just wish I could grow a Jacaranda in my garden...sigh...

We do get some cool weather here in San Diego...last winter was cooler than normal. However, with this being said, cold weather is subjective. What we consider cold may not be cold to you. Our normal average high temp in January is 68ºF (20ºC); however, many times we will get temps to 80ºF (27ºC) and sometimes higher than 90ºF (32ºC).

Subjective is right..20/21C for me is a warm summer's day!

6 Aug, 2013

Yes, that's for sure. LOL! :>)

20 - 23ºC are the average morning low temps., which happen around 5:00 a.m. and only last for about 15 - 30 minutes in the summer. However, it's been cooler than normal for more than week. Highs have only been between 78 - 84ºF (26 - 29ºC) in inland San Diego, and these were the coolest high temps recorded last week Thursday and Friday. The normal highs for inland areas of San Diego are: 88 - 95ºF (31 - 35ºC) for this time of year.

There is only one way I could survive that..a hazmat suit that's air conditioned!

8 Aug, 2013

That's funny! You wouldn't have wanted to be here last August. It was horribly HOT! I had the highest energy bills ever for using by air conditioner.

So many people were going the emergency room with heat-related illnesses; heat exhaustion, heatstroke last August. I actually got sick from the heat, it was 105ºF (40.6ºC) with very high humidity. We had so many days over at 100ºF (38ºC)...it got too overwhelming.

Ok I wont envy you your Jacaranda trees..I will stick with lil 'ole UK!

8 Aug, 2013

Jacaranda trees can tolerate pretty cool conditions. They are widely grown as a street tree in San Francisco. They don't bloom until late, though...not until July or August. However, with this being said, most of San Francisco is frost-less. It's just cool in summer. Fall and even sometimes in winter it can be warmer.
