Thanks Gralew, it is soothing, especially now that I no longer have fish, although I do have to keep the magpies from eating the tadpoles when they're little:-)

those plants really do make a pond come to life...

Thank you Jane, the frogs and newts love it although it's green. I did buy some ecosure, I think it's called, to clear the pond without damage to wildlife, but I'm too afraid to use it in case it upsets the balance:-)

Lovely, Born, my pond is only one yr old but we have water snails and lots of newts and also damsel flies ?

its surprises me how quick life is established in a relatively
new habitat :) i know we can get pond life from farms and so forth to start things of but it will just as quick have all the newts and snails turning up regardless.

Bbmum, now I'm jealous ....I only have a pair of newts and no damsel flies:-( Loads of frogs though and water boatmen:-))

Jane, not far from where I live, there was clay extraction. The deep holes naturally filled with water over time and fish appeared. Must have been dropped by birds? Can't think of any other way:-)

thats like near where i live too :) the hole in the ground was a huge chalk pit and was naturally filled full of water from four under water springs :) has plenty of fish in there now all manner of birds come visit. however iam almost sure someone mentioned to me the fish were introduced to the water for fishing!In my many photos on here there is one or two of the pit in winter :) but i will pop along if i can and get some more photos...

iam not sure if birds drop fish into ponds, paints a quaint picture in my mind tho :) the fish would get there some how tho. intresting is it not?

Yes, possibly fiish eggs on birds feet? or an accidentally dropped pregnant fish? Nature will always take over given half a chance:-))

could be might do some research on that but when you think about it makes perfect sense it would be used :) the newly formed body of water (if permanent)
