Fascinating Amy. I googled, and it seems to be mostly grown indoors. Apparently it likes high humidity and lots of light. But thats not to say it cant be grown outdoors. It's a great plant, really 'different'.

‘Mikado’P grows best at a temperature of 19-22°C and a relative air humidity of at least 70%.
Because of its origin as a swamp plant ‘Mikado’P grows best under humid circumstances.
Keeping the pot moist continuously is essential for a good growth. As soon as the plant gets
dryer circumstances, the plant stops growing and dies.
I think this is from the producers website Amy, hope this helps. I'ts certainly a very interesting plant:-)

Wow thank you Bg you were right about it being a swamp plant then ,I must go and stand it in some water immediately I've been to busy to check it out myself , would you believe I've got the oven on baking for visitors tomorrow in this heat !! I've also copied the temps etc.. :o))
19 Jul, 2013
Oooh don't stand it in water until you've checked Amy, I should hate to be blamed for drowning it lol:-))

I've decided to take up the position as Superhero and today I saved the life of a butterfly. It was in a charity shop window, no way of finding the door. Ba to the rescue, picking up a glass tumbler from the window display, I boldly and dexterously caught the terrified creature using little more than a piece of cardboard and my courage. I released it to loud applause from customers .... well not quite, actually I mumbled to the girl behind the counter that I was just releasing a butterfly as she watched suspiciously as I walked to the door with an unpayed for glass:-))

Twice in one day "Gosh " that makes you Double Super hero ,how brave of you Bg you deserve a medal for valour in extraordinary circumstances with only a sheet of cardboard for protection , I could have done with you today .this evening when I closed the windows there was a huge moth in the bedroom , where is Ba my hero ?? .............

Oh sorry ... hiding from the thunder:-((
23 Jul, 2013
That's not fair we haven't had any thunder ,I love a good thunder storm !
23 Jul, 2013
Me too really, but not in the wee small hours! Didn't get much sleep, far too humid, then when I finally dropped off BAM! (superman noise) house-shaking thunder which carried on for about 5 hours or so. Luckily our dogs don't bother about thunder either and everywhere was nice and fresh when the torrent stopped, but quite a few plants damaged, slightly flattened colutea, hope most will pick up :-)
