but this is a huge area on the hill that is covered with wild virgin's bower (clematis)

Very likely, Amy. I've seen it climb all the way to the top of a 20 ft. sapling on the roadside. It was invisible during the summer with leaves on the tree...but in the autumn the fuzzy seed heads looked like decorations on the bare tree.
