Just sat there...I think it may have been newly hatched and was drying in the sun.

Such an amazing amount of colour in these, beautiful creature, not many tortoishells in the garden here, lots of peacocks and other butterflies but only seen a couple of these. Beautiful photo. :O)))))

lovely photo! what is it perching on? it might be the plant that it hatched on, so knowing what it is might help to bring some my way ...

It's on the seed pods of malva moschata Fran...the musk mallow.

We haven't had that many here. I think it is because of the plant desert either side of my garden!

it takes time for word to get around ... but once one has found your garden, it'll come back, and maybe that will be inherited

yes, we do have a few tortoiseshells Fran...love them. Sadly not recently though as it's been very cloudy and damp here.
