Growing in the hedgerow on St Mary's. A gdn escape from the days when the Scillys were big flower growers.

They were prolific growers, Mouldy & grew flowers for export, as did the Channel Isles, however their trade slumped when the Dutch came on the scene producing flowers & tomatoes big time under glass & of course under cutting prices. I've always thought it was a great pity that we didn't stay loyal to these islands. Guernsey is covered with rotting green houses, & Jersey now relies a lot on people keeping their money in banks there.
Thanks for looking at my pics.

My mother, now deceased, along with one of my aunts, regularly holiday-ed on both islands.
Gold wasn't expensive to purchase on either, if memory serves me well, so both mum & auntie Anne always returned home with trinkets, but that was back in the mid 80's.
The current price has gone through the roof, however.
What I do recall clearly was my aunt's dread & mum's thrilled delight at their 'plane's landing & take-off.
By all accounts it's a very short runway!
It's always a pleasure to view your photos & read your blogs, so you're welcome.

Not sure if you mean they were prolific growers or grew big flowers, Fever?
Please, excuse my ignorance!
