Jasminum officinale Fiona Sunrise

Jasminum officinale Fiona Sunrise (Jasminum officinale)

This won't survive the winter but the scent was irresistible - I just had to have it!

Hi Scottish, could you not put it in a greenhouse or conservatory frost free, seems a shame to just lose it, I love the smell of Jasmine, Derek.

Don't have a conservatory Derek and only greenhouse is the use of my neighbours and it isn't always frost free. I'll cut it back and pop it into their greenhouse with some protection - and keep my fingers crossed :)
I've nothing to loose by giving it a go!

It has beautiful colour of leaves and I can just smell it. What growing zone do you live in Scottish? Just wondering.

Gorgeous! I love it. If we get a mil dish winter it may well survive in that greenhouse you mentioned...here's hoping!

Klahanie - I think we are in Zone 8. I'm sure Karen will correct me if I'm wrong :)
Karen - I did kind of think that. All the way home in the car the scent justified the money ;)

Same as here. We are also in zone8. I think that Jasmine is hardy at zone 8...no? I did a little web reading on it as I love the colour of the leaves. But the winter protection as you suggested will be helpful.

Thanks Klahanie - all I found was conflicting advice H4 or H3 hardiness.
Yes, winter protection will be the way to go I think. I'll know soon enough in spring ;)

It's not only the zone though Klahanie. We have fairly mild winters, but they are long and dark, and it takes the soil a long time to warm up. Then there's the wind chill factor too. Our season is so much shorter here, and some of the borderline plants don't get growing until June. All of this takes it's toll on the delicate plants, but we still keep on trying!

Please give it a go as it is such a sweet plant and would like to stay with you a little bit longer!!

I also have this Scottish - such a gorgeous 'limey green' colour .......

Thanks Karen. That makes sense. I try to grow on the edge as well. Mostly unsuccessfully. Plants stay with me for 2-3 years and then harsher winter comes and that is it. The winters are inconsistent ..probably everywhere.
