Wild flower?

I've just got back from South Cornwall and this plant was EVERYWHERE, hedgerows, clifftops, near the sea..it doesn't look like a wild flower.

Have you ruled out Crocosmia? It is native to South Africa. We have loads of it. Ours has been neglected this year and for the most part has started to fade without flowering.
