Cute baby Banana Slug (Ariolimax columbianus)

I've never seen one before - yes, I think it's cute!

They can get really big and intimidating.

What a thrill it had flying in an air. How many banana slugs can do that. The forest floor is soft, covered with moss and decaying leaves.
I only see these in the forested part of our property never in the garden. This little one was in a patch of cyclamen I found behind the shed but I think it was munching on the composted stick ,not the plant. I just did not want it there Katarina. :-) They like to curl in my pots (in my "production" area), I put lots of composted chips in them. They all flying in the forest when I find them there!

I think its awful that people cut slugs in half - how sad to inflict excruciating pain for doing what comes natural to them. Yes they can be a nuisance, but, there is no need to do that, it's very, very wrong!!

I didn't know that they did,H. But nothing surprises me. I read in yesterday's D Mail that someone put a lot of cyanide into a watering hole, & in salt licks to kill the elephants to take their tusks, which of course it did & a whole lot of other wildlife too.80 elephants,+buffaloes,lions vultures, antelopes & jackels, & 100's of animals are now at risk when they feed on the carcasses.I wish I never read it. I don't think I'll buy a newspaper again for a long time, it's all doom & gloom. There ought to be a good news only paper to cheer us all up!

Oh how very, very sad..sickening in fact! I never read newspapers, Feverfew. I also try not to watch any Tv news either. Yes, that would be a good newspaper could call it "The Happy Times"!

That's exactly what it needs Feverfew. Broadcasting all the bad and awful things going on just makes people more aggressive & resentful & doesn't solve anything.
If lots more good things were spread around for people to see & read it would make for calmer minds.
Aggression spawns aggression & just makes things worse.

Don't ask me what the answers to the world's problems are, but I am pretty sure people would be calmer if death & destruction were not splashed over all the newspapers & television news.
It is all horrible but there must be another way to get back to some sanity on this earth!

Wow! I haven't seen one since I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. I don't think we have them this far south in San Diego, though.

No, I would not expect that you have. They like the wet climate.

That's partially true. They would would be in parts of the S. F. Bay Area that were pretty dry; however, they would be in wooded areas close to streams or moist soil.
