Taken yesterday in hazy sunshine

Taken yesterday in hazy sunshine

Lovely to work out in the garden on days like this, cloudy today but yesterday was broken with some sunshine. Hoping for rain soon as the garden is very dry.

Where on earth did the summer go? I feel as though it went by in a flash. And now begins the six long months of grey and cold. I spent half an hour with my new landscape mag. This morning and there is so much in there to cheer me up. I think this move is going to be the start of a new lifestyle for me. More food growing, cooking, art, crafts and reading....and of course gardening! But most of all....I think I'll feel more 'at home' surrounded by the fields and wooded hills. I can't wait!

You will have such fun out there, it looks amazing. :O) I too had a quick look at my Landscape mag, it is a lovely magazine. Lots of lovely recipes in for sloes might go and pick some and try them out later on. :O)

It does look wonderful. Sloe gin is the only recipe you need Olive!

I know I love it but not allowed too much as it is very high in sugar. :O( My friend makes it for oh he drinks it through the winter, takes a hip flask with him when he goes off shooting and working his dogs through the winter months. It is very moooooooorish! lol.

It is! I love it. We buy it in winter, but it's really only great when it's home made. Gordon's is ok, but it's nothing like home made. I was just thinking the same..."wonder if there are any Blackthorn bushes near the cottage"...I shall explore those hills in front. They have lots of footpaths across them. There's also the country park of course...and a quarry at the top of a hill behind the cottage. There might be some wilderness up there!

Beautiful picture!

I can't find any sloes around. I think there is a blackthorn on the school field, but I no longer have access to that. So this year I am trying some damson gin. Watch this space!

lol :O) I have had a taste of damson gin, that is lovely too, very similar to sloe gin Melchi. Sure you will enjoy just as much. Blackberry Whisky is also very nice. lol. sound like an alchi now. but actually only every taste things these days, too much sugar in it for me to drink. lol.

OH has the same problem, Barbara. I don't go too much for sweet drinks, but always love producing things. Just as well really - with sloe gin etc. a little goes a long way!

You've got your wish, Barbara as we had rain today and more forecast for tomorrow ! I still think you must have loads of patience to cut the grass around all those slabs. Its looking as beautiful as ever.

lol Melchi hic hic hic :O)

Rose I do not cut around the slabs, lol they are buried just under the height of the grass so cutting is easy, the mower just slides over them. Yes we had some rain yesterday too. It was good to see it coming down, it didn't last long though. It stopped Paul at work, he could not get the job done he had planned for top dressing the cricket square so he has it to do today. oops.

Hope you and oh are doing well still in your new place and thanks for your lovely comment on my new project. It will look good when the rose has climbed to the top. I think it will anyway. :O)

Thanks Barbara, we are loving it here ! I think the plants are too , lol ! That was a clever idea, sinking the slabs. I wouldn't have thought of that. One of these days we'll get time to meet up !

We will get there one day Rose, maybe in the Spring now because I am going to be busy making stuff, like Christmas cakes and jams and then the big tidy up in the garden so this time of year is quite a busy time for me. I have to make some chutneys too, done some jam today, raspberry and apple. I am so pleased you have settled in well in your new home. How is the garden faring with the change in temperature we have now? My roses are putting on some more colour for me. It is nice to keep the colour going for a while. Isn't it dark after tea now? The cricket has finished but we have meetings etc. AGM and committee meetings for next few months to sort stuff out for next season. I do not know when I find time to do any gardening. lol. Speak again soon. x B
