Thankyou everyone :-)
I'd definitely recommend this one Dawn, think I'm going to take advantage of the RHS seed scheme again this year I've had lots of lovely and unusual seed from them.
You probably could grow in a propagator Lynda but I just sowed mine in pots in my unheated greenhouse in late winter and they germinated in 14 to 21 days no problem thats the way I've grown all the other grasses I've grown, but if you don't have a greenhouse a propagator would do fine :-)

Hi Kathy, how does the RHS seed scheme work then?

I can try and get you some seed off my Miscanthus for you, if you like.

You have to be a member of the RHS Dawn?,you can usually view the seedlist online in November it tells you how in the November mag or you can ask for a paper version to be sent to you, you pick 20 packets of seed for £12 (thats what it was last year anyway) you have to put a few alternatives to in case there aren't many of any particular seed then you receive them next April time, some lovely unusual ones on there.
That'd be lovely thankyou, I'll collect you some from this once they're ripe :-)

Added to my favs :o)) Kathy I would like to collect some seed from my Cortaderia but am never sure when they are ready?

Thanks Annella glad you like it :-)
Now thats one I haven't grown from seed :-) its ripe when the seed drops easily off the plant when you bend the head and shake the stem, once they start to drop you can chop off the whole panicle and put it upside down in a paper bag and the rest will drop off when ripe.
