Wonderful! I missed this. The birch turned but the poplar stayed green, some dropped leaves in green overnight.

thanks Jane!
Gt: This must look like your foothills, right? (down in the lower 48) Cottonwoods and Aspen? We had a big cottonwood in our backyard last garden...the bud covers were tough and sticky and Mandy used to get them stuck between her toes. awful things. Nice trees to look at though. Somehow leaves falling green doesn't sound good. Will that harm the trees?

We are completely boreal here so only cottonwood, aspen and birch, everywhere in the interior. It was so strangely dry I think the poplars once they started getting rain wouldn't give up growing. They were green when the yellow birch lost their leaves, and then a rainy night that hit freeze, the green poplars just fell apart. We'll see who survives the drought next spring. I think no one called it a drought since we don't grow crops, but it was. Two days of rain all summer until end of august. We are usually a bit damp all summer long.
