Thank you TT. It was done on a very small budget. The pots on the wall contain roses to act as a deterrant to the thieves who plagued the streets around the area. They had a big white van which allowed them easy access over the 8ft high walls and they took what they fancied. The roses were never very great but they were very thorny.

I like how the walls are softened by the use of greenery too.

We had the wall on the right hand side built to separate her space from that of the downstairs flat. They were happy to have it replaced at our expense. Their dog who was a lovely old soul was using the area as a toilet which did not accord with our daughters lifestyle. You can see that the concrete floor requires work but it did allow plant roots to grow down in to the soil beneath the pots we were using. The area was only about 10 ' wide by 25' long and the stair took up quite a lot of space. The people in the upstairs flat next door had roofed over their space to take a car and put in a spiral staircase leading up to their roof top garden. By the time she sold it the mesh on the staircase was covered in honeysuckle.

Thank you Lynda and Mel. It was done on a reasonably small budget and it did make a huge difference to how she felt about how she wanted to live. She had a BBQ and a table and 6 chairs which got tucked in to the shed built in to the space below the stairs.
