This tree was growing at Foster's Botanical Gardens in Honolulu, Hawaii. It's one of the most common flowering trees planted in the Hawaiian Islands. Photo taken Aug. 2009.

Thanks! In person these are some of the most beautiful trees in the world. They are extremely common in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Here in San Diego we can barely grow them...they're so tropical.

Now this has been on my wish list for a while, and I think I've finally got a spot for one. I love the way the flowers change colour as they age.

Yes, they're so beautiful! And yes the flowers change color and there's so many color variations.
I wish it was a more common tree here!

There's an entire street planted with them in one of our inner city suburbs close to the beach. They were planted by our town council and they just look spectacular when they're all covered in blooms. When the old flowers drop to the ground they create a carpet of colour all along the street as well.

I bet it's gorgeous! They are such beautiful flowering trees! Your city must look spectacular with this tree and Delonix regia, Jacaranda and the shower trees in bloom.
I wish a hybrid would be make between Cassia leptophylla and C. javanica. I think this hybrid would grow much better here. This rainbow shower tree is a hybrid between C. fistula and C. javanica. Both C. fistula and javanica can grow here...not sure why it's hybrid doesn't grow so well here, though.

If you go to Honolulu, Hawaii (where I'm from originally) you'll see hundreds of thousands of this tree. It's the official tree of Honolulu.

I did not know that.

Yes, it's true. They are very widely used as street trees and in the parks along with coconut trees in Hawaii.
