Feijoa Fruit

1st time this has happened.......Now the weather is closing in I don't suppose I stand a chance of it developing much more.

I've just looked it up Milky another name is Pineapple guava or Acca fruit , did you grow it from seed ? Have you eaten any before ?

Roy.....Yes I grew it from seed...its 5/6 years old now....its the 1st time I have had a fruit on it, and I have never tasted on, although Delonix has told me that you can eat the flowers as part of a salad......Not tried that either. lol

It looks like it'll be ripe soon. Cool weather doesn't bother pineapple guava so much. It a very hardy subtropical fruit! The fruit, flower pedals and leaves are edible. Pineapple guava is commercially grown in California.

Roy....we are in Essex...This faces north and only gets sunshine in the summer, although it does have a small amount of protection from our lean~to it has been growing happily where it is for the last 4 years

We are growing this plant, bought as an Acca, it is growing against the fence where it is protected and warm, hoping to get some fruit one of these days it is about 4 ft now, so pleased you have some fruit on your Milky, so exciting when this happens.....

Acca is the new genus. It used to be in the genus: Feijao.

You're welcome. So many Genera have been re-classified over the last 10 - 13 years, it's not funny!

I'm sorry to hear you didn't get a good feijao fruit! It is usually very sweet, with a overtone flavor of pineapple.

That is brilliant Milky certainly different I've never heard of a Feijoa fruit if it ripens is it edible, and where does it originate from ?
