MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM SUNNY, HOT SAN DIEGO, CA.

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM SUNNY, HOT SAN DIEGO, CA. (MERRY CHRISTMAS)

No, it's not summer. It's Christmas Day and I'm at Mission Beach here in San Diego, CA. It's was 80ºF (27ºC) at the beaches and 88ºF (31ºC) in inland San Diego. It's been about 3 or 4 years since it's been this hot on Christmas Day.

Hywel:

Merry Christmas!

If this weather gives you headaches, you wouldn't want to be here for the next 10 days. This winter heatwave is suppose to last for the next 10 days (so the weather people say).

Dottydaisy2:

Merry Christmas!

So sorry to hear about your very bad storms! :>(

I hope the next round of storms aren't as bad!

Blommer:

Merry Christmas!

I had a wonderful Christmas! There were many thousands of people at the beaches throughout Southern California.

26 Dec, 2013

You look ready for the surf. I'll take 10 days of 80+. Sounds ideal and much better then the subfreezing temps we've been having here in New York.

26 Dec, 2013

Lucky you Del, Is that the sea in the reflection of the window, looks great.....

27 Dec, 2013

Bathgate:

Well, you need to come to San Diego. :>)

I read you had warmer than normal weather last week in New York...then the cold came back this week, right?

27 Dec, 2013

Johnjoe:

Yes, the beach and Pacific Ocean is just in front of me.

Thousands of people were at the beach...even in the cold water. BRRR! The Pacific Ocean water temp here is only 62ºF (17ºC), very, very cold!

27 Dec, 2013

The temps reached 70F on Sunday, but it's a distant memory. Now we are like the Eskimos!

27 Dec, 2013

Ill take some of that warmth palmate..lol
The annual christmas day swim went ahead in Cromer beach on boxing day water temps about 4degrees...BBrrrr they must be mad ...

27 Dec, 2013

Bathgate:

That must be horrible to be that cold! I just heard on The Weather Channel another cold wave is heading your way. :>(

It's going to continue to be dry and warm here in San Diego for the next couple of weeks. Most of us love the nice warm weather; however, we so desperately need rain. The drought is severe here.

27 Dec, 2013

Palmate:

You need to come to San Diego. I think you said your sister lives here. Hopefully, she's not bragging too much about how warm to hot it's been here.

That's crazy! I would freeze to death in 4ºC (39ºF) water! I won't go into the ocean until the water temp reaches at least 70ºF (21ºC).

27 Dec, 2013

It is raining heavily where I am now Delonix1 for past 4 days. Very unusual for this time of year. It is a dry season here. Rainy season starts at end of June. People around here are not unhappy but we come for the sun so rain is not welcome...we have lots of it on Vancouver Island.

28 Dec, 2013

Klahanie:

So that's where San Diego's much-needed rain has gone. LOL! :>)

Sorry to hear about all the rain! I know that's so unusual for it to be raining in most of Mexico this time of year (the dry season)...however, with this being said: there's always the exceptional years. I hope the hot, sunny weather returns for you soon!

29 Dec, 2013

I hope that the high pressure from California will push this disturbance south :-)
Happy New Year.

29 Dec, 2013

HAPPY NEW YEAR! :>)

Yes, let's hope that high pressure moves that wet weather out of there! :>)

San Diego is suppose to stay high and dry with well above temps through mid-January.

29 Dec, 2013

Hey Andy...Hope that your Christmas was good, and wish you all the best for 2014............

31 Dec, 2013

5 Jan, 2014

I'm even later with my good wishes Terra!!!

Nice Strelitzia!

17 Jan, 2014

Meanie:

Happy Belated Christmas and Happy New Year!

The Strlitzia species have been reveling in the very hot weather we've been having for several weeks here in Southern California. We're having summer in the middle of winter here. It's so crazy!

17 Jan, 2014

"We're having summer in the middle of winter here."

So relieved that you're not getting your usual "winter"!!!!!!!
To be serious though, I was checking the pots of tender bulbs for mice/squirrel damage today and found the Pleiones shooting. So although it's not hot here, it is far too mild.

17 Jan, 2014

We can get warm to hot weather in January; however, it's not so protracted! (especially so many days of 90ºF [32ºC] weather in a row). That only usually happens in summer. The nights have been unbelievably warm, also (which is more unusual than the hot days).

Governor Jerry Brown (Cal's Gov.) today declared a State of Emergency due to the extreme drought. The hot weather has created fires and no snow in the high Sierra Mountains. This is where the majority of California's water comes from.

18 Jan, 2014

Meanie:

I've read a lot of comments on GoY that the UK has had a very mild winter so far. I've also read some areas have had tons of rain. Are you getting a lot of rain?

18 Jan, 2014

We tend to be quite lucky with the rain where I live. It has been wet, but not extreme as it has been elsewhere in the UK. But there are a lot of tributaries flowing into the River Thames around here, so the lowland areas are prone to flooding. Couple that to the locks on the Thames being closed to protect larger towns and cities along its upper reaches and these small local rivers fill up out of all proportion to the rainfall that we get.

19 Jan, 2014

Meanie:

I really wish you could send us of some of that rain and water! It's so dry here it feels like the desert. My plants are really starting to suffer. Some of my plants look horrible from this hot, dry weather! I have to do so much watering every day.

20 Jan, 2014

You're welcome to it! It's as bad for my borderline hardy herbaceous plants as the cold.

20 Jan, 2014

If only it were so easy to receive your water and rain, right?

It's cooled down a little, yesterday. The high was only 79 degrees (F)...it was the first day below 80 degrees in many days (here where I live). Tomorrow it's suppose to warm back up above 80 degrees again!
