There are some nice plants buried beneath the snow. Tonight wind chills are forecasted to reach -45 F so at least some plants are protected. -45 is 25 degrees colder than anything I can remember here

It is nice to look at, just not fun to be out shoveling snow or trying to drive! Yes if it is going to be cold it's better to have the snow protecting plants. I went out during the snow storm and buried some shrubs that weren't already covered

We usually only get power failures if there is a lot of ice or tornadoes/strong thunderstorms and it is usually restored within a day, unless it's really bad. I used to live in a rural part of Michigan and power outages lasted much longer there. My sister used to live in Connecticut and when they would lose power it could take 2-3 weeks before it was back.

but not appropriate so stay safe and warm if you can, no doubt the plants will look after themselves under the snow.
you have as much snow as we have water in the UK
