Thanks Suey187, It is sort of like that. They help me out, by keeping my veggie garden virtually bug free. I enjoy having them around. Sometimes a very rare and unusual bird shows up.

Suey187. It's really nice to see so many birds in my garden. They also fertilize the garden for me too :). I feel they depend on me to get through the long cold winter.

Hi Cmsue: I really enjoy seeing the birds in my garden and how they interact with each other. Occasionally, I'll get a very strange and unusual looking bird I've never seen before, like the red hooded woodpecker. I wonder how they can peck a hole into a tree without smashing their skulls. Don't birds have hallow bones?

I would love to see all these in my garden ,Paul..although the Blackbirds are always here,in a pair just now..and looking for nest building material..all the berries have gone off the Pyracantha's now..and the Thrushes have helped them out :o)..I think yours would appreciate some underfloor heating ! Lol.

LOL yes Sandra, that's for sure. In fact I would love underground heating too! You can certainly have birds in your garden. All I did was hang up a bird feeder and keep it filled with their favorite seeds. They are relatively inexpensive and such a joy to watch. The birds will take a day or two to discover you feeder, but once they do, they will stay around all year long. Be sure to get the kind that is squirrel resistant and hang it in a place where the birds will feel safe. A low tree branch is ideal. Just fill it with seeds, hang it up, and they will eventually find it. No fuss.

I have a Shepherds crook type feeder,Paul.which has three points to hang feeders,and another single one for nuts..I do get Bluetits,Coal tits,Sparrows that use them,but at the moment they are infrequent visitors.I haven't seen any sign of the Goldfinches as yet,as I have nyger seeds for those...I think there is still some natural food around,with it being so mild yet..The Robin and Blackbirds appreciate eating at ground level..so they have already had breakfast of left over pastry crumbs..and some seeds..if the Pigeons and Magpies don't get there first !..I had a lone grey Squirrel a couple of weeks back,but as the feeders are the clear plastic ones,,he was soon on his way,without managing to get in to them..just trying his chances,I guess.,on his way back to the nearby wood :o)
I just wish we had Cardinals !

Hi Sandra: We have Goldfinches here too, but they look different from yours. Ours only turn bright yellow in Spring and Summer, in Fall and Winter they turn brown and hard to tell apart from sparrows. The Cardinals are very special and everybody loves them and so are the blue jays. The Cardinals have a beautiful song once the warm weather arrives. They don't wander like other birds do. I have two pairs that have lived in my garden for a few years. They are ground feeders too so I need to sprinkle seeds on the ground for them. It's great that you care for them in your part of the world. I think they depend on us more then ever.

thanks for the info,Paul..very interesting..especially about your Goldfinches..I'm not sure if ours change colour according to the season,as they appear to be the same all year round,with bright splashes of red and black...lucky you with your regular Cardinals..The last photo I posted is of my feeders with the Grey Squirrel trying his luck,if you want to take a peek....

Great photo Sandra, he looks like he's trying to sneak in for a snack. Yes our goldfinches are quite different. I'll post a pic of one so you can see the difference. They are quite stunning as are yours!
