I love their feather colours ...
what is their favourite food ?

Blue Jays are omnivorous, which means they eat plants and animals. Their favorite food is acorns from oak trees, but some other things they eat are fruit, nuts, seeds, insects, mice, frogs, small birds, eggs, beechnuts, and caterpillars.

Because I feed a variety of birds I buy bags of seeds with the appeal of variety, which contains high oil content sunflower seeds, (smaller and black) Striped sunflower seeds (larger and white striped) peanuts, red and white millet, oats, niger seed (specially for finches) and flax. This mix is for blue jays, cardinals, goldfinches, and evening grosbeaks plus the highest grade suet blocks that I can find often containing cracked corn, millet and apple. In winter instead of composting my kitchen peelings I put them out as well and try to keep a spot open on the pond or creek for them to get to water.
In the spring I cut back on the seed but make sure that there is suet. I find that when nature's bounty returns they don't come to the feeder.
It started snowing at about 8 a.m. and it looks like we will have more accumulation which sends the birds to the feeders in record numbers... I had better dress and go out to replenish.
