Koi carp

hi, i had a problem with a heron and netted my pond as you have, but i found that the heron could still spear the fish with its beak,but could not get hold of the fish, result dead fish.
i was told by a friend in barnham east sussex that if i put three lines of garden string or twine around the pond at various heights,(foot,2foot,3foot) around the perimeter.
the heron then cant lift its legs to get near the pond. i hope this is of some help.

Thanks for the tip with the lines Scousemonk, although i'm not sure how I would fix it as I only have a foot width of planting area at the back and one end of this pond as it is a raised pond. I will seriously have to think on this as it sounds a much better idea and certainly wont look as ugly. Failing to use it on this pond I am thinking of putting another pond in the garden at ground level and will use this idea then. Thanks again noballsallowed :-)

I too had problems with herons, so I decided to cover parts of the pond with some natural looking expanding trellis which I reckoned would deter the herons. It seemed to work and also looked quite nice. How are your koi doing in this freezing weather NBA? I have only one in my pond (ghost koi) and am really worried! especially as my pond isn't very deep. I love the colours of your koi they do look healthy!

The pond is frozen over apart from where the filtered water flows back in. All fish seem ok at the moment so fingers crossed.
