Thrupennybit:

No, it's very different from a fuchsia.

It's a tropical shrub native to southern Mexico.

Thank you Delonix1 for the information.

Delonix.....my heart stops every time I see this in bloom. Let's hope for some seeds!!!

My neighbor Randallsd has lots of seed. He has beautiful, large shrubs which produce tons of seed.

Alexandramou:

Maybe I'll ask Randy for some seed for you.

This plant doesn't like a lot of heat. I have my plant under the shade structure in the front yard (facing north). It's been so very hot this week, this plant isn't looking so good. Many areas around San Diego County were 88ºF (31ºC), it was close to this temp, where I live.

:o)))))))))))))))))))))))))
Yes, would you please ask him. I sent you a pm but looks like you didn't see it.

So where do you keep your plant when it's too hot??? Pot or ground?

It's a beautiful sunny day here....not sure of the temp yet. Nothing near 31C though. :o)

Alexandramou:

My Deppea stays in the shade structure on the north-side of the house, all year. It's still gets hot in there, though.

It's in a big pot.

Meanie:

I can't remember if I sent you seeds to this plant, did I?

17 Feb, 2014

Not yet. I'm still trying to work out what I can send you!

17 Feb, 2014

Sorry! My mind must be going. I'll have to send them out soon. I guess I'll have to send some of the seeds to Alex, also.

I've been looking for one casually for years. It seems to do well in local botanical gardens through cool summers. A lot of the cloudforest plants grow fast and well in the bay area.

Yes, this plant loves when it's cooler. My plant is looking really sad. It's been hating the consistently hot weather we've had this year.
