I find the snowdrops that get shade flower a good fortnight later than those in a sunnier spot - extends the amount of time snowdrops are in flower. Those in deep shade are another 2 weeks away from flowering!

Yes ours do the same, because they are dotted around the garden.

just a after thought...its quite amazing how the snowdrops that are in our surrounding wooded areas however open quite early but last longer than a all snowdrops which are in full shade and ones which are in most sunlight.....
just a observation of mine this winter/spring like mild weather..

Bought some snowdrop bulbs last Autumn, alas they haven't bloomed.

The do prefer a woodland situation Jane, so probably why they last longer in there.
Treetop, did you have foliage? Remember to leave well alone - its the foliage that builds up for next years flowers.
Chris, thanks :)

thx scottish...i could kick myself ive just realized the wooded area that i spoke of belongs to someone who offered me the use of her kiln...ive been trying for days to get you a photograph of these snowdrops (still in bloom) you have never seen such a massive production of them carpeted tree to tree :-) its been really hard because i have a ditch and brambles, thorns and all kinds to battle through, cutting a long story short i saw a gate lol and would you credit it i recognized it as the kiln ladies garden which is leading right from the woods, lol
oh well next year ;-) or if i get the chance i will pop along and ask if i may go into her woods :-)
