Love the curve of the stepping stones round that border. It's getting really exciting in the garden now, isn't it?

Thanks Susanne (and Sandra, for popping in!). Yes, I love this exciting time of year.

I'm glad you like the path - it was the first change I made when I was doing the Garden Design course . . . had always wanted a path to the greenhouse, but not a straight one!

Stepping stones are surprisingly effective at protecting the lawn. I have a similar path down to the corner of the garden. The children used to go through the gate at the bottom to get to school (we back on to the site). The path made a huge difference, especially in winter. It's not so much used now, of course, and their old route down the bank at the back is completely overgrown. Just as well - we don't want any traffic in the reverse direction!

The garden design course must have been very interesting . Where did you do it?

Lovely! I might have to add some stepping stones to my heavy traffic areas in the lawns too.

Susanne, I did the course at Shuttleworth College. I'd been looking for a course for years, then came across a 5-week Taster course. Met 'Jane' and we got on very well together . . neither of us were too sure about enrolling for a whole year, but then said to each other "well, I will if you will!" and we thoroughly enjoyed it, designing three entire gardens, one for each term. That was in 2006, and she's coming to lunch this week with two others who were on the course! We all meet up every few months, so it was a very positive experience :))

Sounds like a lot of fun!

Fun is the word Karen . . . I bet everyone on here would love a garden design course. For me it brought watercolour and calligraphy together, and a bit of plant knowledge, but couldn't have done it professionally (as I'd fancied doing in my thirties) as I'm not practical enough to understand slopes, building walls etc. So, perfect just to do it for fun!

It sounds very good.
