The eastward march of the lily of the valley

The eastward march of the lily of the valley

I suppose I'd better mow these down - they'll cross the lawn eventually, if not!

I had to cut mine of when I cut the grass as they were all over.

Unstoppable, aren't they? And the roots are like a thick, felt mat!

People say this, but I can't get them to take in my garden.

My mother told me that they can be tricky - she can't keep them, either. These were planted over 35 years ago, allmost disappeared, and for some reason have returned with a vegeance in the last few years. I think I'm going to have to wrest some of them out of the border - they are beginning to take over.

Keep trying in different areas Tuesdaybear. They seem to do very well in sandy soil if you can change the soil where you want to grow them. It took me many years to get them to grow in our garden and it seems to be growing like a weed now. I can let you have some roots 'in the green' if you pm me. Alternatively if you know someone who grows them get a few roots now and pop them in.

I didn't know they liked sandy soil, SG. I do have a friend who has them, so I'll follow your suggestion. Thanks for the offer though. :)

That's probably why they do well here, Scotsgran. Digging down, I reach sand, sand and more sand!

I suppose any well drained soil should also be suitable. I'm wondering if the long dry summer we had last year has contributed to the spread of these.

Very possibly, Scotsgran. They have certainly put on their biggest spurt for many years.
