Daphne x napolitana 'Stasek'

Daphne x napolitana 'Stasek'

Most of my daphnes appear to be untouched by the ridiculous hard winter we had, good thing we had plenty of snow cover during the coldest stretches. This is flowering very early (2 weeks before tulips), the deep pink flower color is because of the cold and I imagine the flowers are smaller for the same reason. The only one I lost is Daphne tangutica, after the snow melted it left quite a bit of standing water that killed it.

Hi Arkwright ....

Glad your daphne's have survived the harsh winter.
This looks lovely. Does it have any scent?

It is amazing the difference in winters, that our 2 countries have had. We only had one morning here (N W England) were we had to scrape ice off the car windscreen. It's been our mildest winter ever. There is a Rhodi in our garden that is in full bloom now, 3 weeks early. Some geraniums have survived overwinter, outdoors which is most unusual.

Yeah being this far inland from the coast doesn't help, winters are never mild here (especially this far north) but this year was brutal. Some years are good, some not but this year was the worst I have ever seen. Glad to hear not everyone had such a harsh winter though!
This daphne does have a nice scent, it's amazing how far their scent carries when you consider how small the plants and flowers are. When the larger daphnes open in another week or two it will be even better
