Foliage garden - May 2nd

Filling out fast. The shrub on the right is not dead; it's a golden catalpa and has been cut back hard to induce large foliage at the expense of the flowers. The sambucus in the back left corner was treated the same way about a month ago.

DD - it's a trick of the light (the photo was taken at 8pm). It's sambucus nigra 'Black Lace'.

had to look up "sambucus", but another word to add to my lexicon!

Yes Andrew for the last three years, and it is still a stick, another for the compost I think.....Ours is Black Lace.

Very nice Andrew, our Catalpa is more a stick than a decent tree, if it does not buck up this year, it goes....which variety of Sambucus is it, it looks more mauve than ours...my type of planting.
