Brahea bandegeei - San Jose Hesper Palm

Brahea bandegeei - San Jose Hesper Palm (Brahea bandegeei - San Jose Hesper Palm)

My neighbor's 60' (18m) tall San Jose Hesper Palm blowing in the hot, dry Santa Ana Winds. It's been one of the strongest San Ana Wind events for this time of year. The winds have caused us to have record high temps all week of up to around 100ºF (39ºC) even to the coast and to 106ºF (41ºC) inland. Santa Ana Wind season is usually from: Sept - April. Photo taken May 1, 2014.

People go to the beach and cool down in the Pacific Ocean, which is still very cold at 64ºF (18ºC).

Pretty much everyone has air conditioners. We stay in the a/c.

That's surprising about the Pacific Ocean, I guess it's because it is so big & doesn't warm up like smaller bodies of water!
We learn something else every day!

Shirlwhirl:

The Pacific Ocean on the west coast doesn't warm up very much at all. We have the cold current for most of California except for here in Southern California, where we have the southerly current from Mexico. Actually, the warmest the Ocean temperate gets in San Diego is usually around 78ºF (26ºC) in the summer. In some years it may get a few degrees warmer; however, most of the time it's a few degrees cooler.
