Mine are just babies Katarina. About 2.5 ft. Not as gorgeous (yet) as yours. I have 2 of them. I only have them for couple of years.

These are young plants Amy. Maybe they are not as productive as they get bigger and older. I really do not fuss with these. Although, I did sheer them last year (slightly). They have sun for about 3 hrs .( If we get sun.)

I had a look at mine today Klahanie it's getting a little old and straggly I'm not sure how long a life they have, I have two younger ones B.thunbergii 'Powwow' photo on GOY last week and also the B.darwinii they both have more flowers I guess they don't produce so much as they get older .I might try pruning my old thunbergii f. atrop. hard this autumn see what happens !

They do not mind pruning. I inherited one berberis bush and we prune it every year. It is green but the new shoots after pruning are redish and very attractive. It is at least 20 years old. So, I would say you can do it Amy. I just made a picture of it today so I will post.
Your new ones are very pretty.
