Thanks all. HB it's not as delicate as it looks. In fact compared to the D. spectablis it's quite tough.

Sussex clay T'bear! Much improved in my garden over the years though with compost/grit/leafmould - my Mum has given up with Dicentras too - perhaps we should grow them in pots?

Worth a try Shirley. I have D. Cucullaria in a pot, brought out into the open in Autumn when it enjoys all the rain. I just keep an eye to temp and pop it somewhere sheltered if it's going to be cold.

Have you grown Dicentra Scandens, a climbing one with yellow flowers?, the names changed now to Dactylicapnos, why do they do that!!!, I grew some from RHS seed last year a few flowers last year but this year they're going mad!! they're planted in the wood to climb the trees and they're clinging onto everything in sight lol, I have to keep going in to aim them in the right direction.

Yes Simbad, had mine for 3 years now and have flowered extraordinarily well here. Mind you, it does not get so hot up here.
Never tried the climbing form, sounds like it enjoyed all the rain you had down there. I grow Tropaeolum speciosum in my front garden and it's doing the exact same thing! I'm trying to let the hedge get taller so I can enjoy it more but growth is not quite quick enough.
Someone on here grows that Dicentra, trying to remember if it's bjs or not. I'll keep my eye out for it. I thought it was only the spectablis that changed their name.
