The "lawn"

The "lawn"

I have to admit this is how I would love my grass to remain, daisies and all. But, of course, it can't... and has already been mown!

I prefer it like that too.

This year we had pretty little blue flowers in the lawn , plus loads of self set primulas ! Its was a shame to cut the grass !

Very wildlife friendly its a pity we have to cut our lawns. Our self set wild primroses returned to greet us this Spring Rose in spite of being mowed regularly.

I love flowers in the lawn too . . . daisies, cowslips, speedwell, they're all welcome!

I didn't think I would be the only one who likes it like this, Hywel. The daisies are already flowering again today, though, so that's all right! I don't cut the grass in the front, only a border round the edge so people don't think I just don't care. They're quite small patches, though, and I have all sorts of little treasures establishing themselves. I've got one brave cowslip on one side, Sheila!

Have you noticed that speedwell (which is probably your pretty small blue flower, Rose) is lovely - I think - in the grass, but a thug in the border? I didn't even recognise it in the flowerbed, yet I love it in the grass.

Your primroses sound lovely, Scotsgran - I love them. I always find a few pretty little heartsease sprinkled about and mow carefully round them.

Did you watch "The Wonder of Bees"? It made me realise how important it is that we continue to allow our wild flowers to survive. There was another programme called "Who Killed the Honeybee?". OH and I found that one worse than depressing.

You'd be welcome to some cowslip seeds if you'd like them, Mel?? I have so many, and they should be 'setting' any time soon. I didn't see the programme you mention, but this spring I started a Wild Flowers group . . . we are sharing native plants and seeds and seeking out meadows to visit.

How lovely, Sheila - that would be great, thank you. The National Wildflower Centre is in Liverpool, but I've never been. I really should. That's the trouble with places that are not too far away - one never goes!

I've made a note in my GoY notebook Susanne - but feel free to PM me in June in case I forget!
