Shady corner

Shady corner

This is my latest addition - a new water feature. I finally gave up on my pebble pool. It didn't owe me anything, being many years old. Recently, it had been clogging up every other day or so, and so I have replaced it with this . I am very pleased with it. At least it is easy to maintain!

I do like shady corners. What is the blue/grey leaved plant in the foreground - am struggling to identify it?

Thank you, Rose.

I really like shady areas as well, Tuesdaybear.

I think the plant is a cineraria. It is another survival thanks to the mild winter. I bought it as a foliage container plant but it has hung on and continued to grow. I've got another couple in another part of the garden. They are now tall and about to produce quite a crop of what I know to be yellow daisy-like flowers.

The fern in the corner is ancient - I think it was already there when we moved in in 1972. It is grandaddy to several self-seeded specimens in other parts of the garden which have positioned themselves beautifully. The little fern on the left self-seeded a couple of years ago into an old bonsai tray. The hart's tongue in front of the large fern is another self-seeder. I have lots of these, especially in the front garden wall. And the holly at the back I trained into a standard from a self-seeded sprig. You can see why I'm not a fan of the garden hoe!

Melchi...for some reason these pics didn't come up on my notifications....so I'm catching up late...sorry to have missed them. This corner looks absolutely lovely and love the new feature!

Thanks, Karen. I'm very pleased with it. The fern behind it has grown so much since I took the photo that I have moved the water feature forward - I can't bear to cut the fern down, although I do take off a bit here and there if it flops over.

I bet it looks lovely. My ferns have grown big too. I love them!
