Yes - they are archetypal cottage garden plants, aren't they? And such lovely colours. These are actually a very pale pink, although they look white in the photo. They are surprisingly tall, as well.
I always used to know these as columbine, Tuesdaybear. I have just googled them and learnt that the name "columbine" (from the Latin for "dove") comes from the resemblance of the flowerhead to five doves nestling together. Er - I hadn't noticed that, myself!
