Adenium obsesum - Desert Rose Flowering

Adenium obsesum - Desert Rose Flowering (Adenium obsesum - Desert Rose)

This is one of my plants which has taken the extremely hot weather we've had in San Diego, CA. this hottest May in over 100 years. We've also had horrible firestorms from strong hot Santa Ana Winds (which is very rare for this time of year). Santa Ana Wind season is from Sept - April. Photo taken May 17, 2014.

Yours looks gorgeous. I'm moving mine outside this year.

This has been a real bad May here... cool temps, rain, wind, not nice at all!

I saw the fires you've had on the news... :o(

Alexandramou:

Yes, this plant needs a tremendous amount of sun and heat to bloom well.

That's strange you're having such a cool spring. You can send me some rain. We so badly need it here in California.

Yes, the firestorms, strong, very dry Santa Ana Winds and extremely hot weather (to 106ºF [42ºC]) is not typical for this time of year. It feels more like Sept thru November. Downtown San Diego broke hi-temp records (and many other cities in Southern California) virtually all last week.

Delonix,

I hope to see some flowers on mine this year??????

We had a gorgeous March....in t-shirts, we all thought, wow really early summer this year....April was up and down but May....
Looks like it's finally settling.

They say we are in for a really hot summer.....it sure is taking it's time to start though!

I hope there will be no more fires for you over there. Looks like you're in for a real hot summer too. :o)

Adenium blooms within a year or two. It should bloom this year for you if you keep it outside in all day sun. It also should stay on the dry side. I give my plant very little water. Although, the last week I've given it more water than normal because of the extreme heat.

We had a very warm to hot winter (I think it's in the top three hottest winters on record). The long-range forecast suggest that we're going to have a much above normal summer (so very hot summer). YUCK!!! The meteorologist are very concerned because the temps have been running hotter than the low deserts (during our heatwaves)....that's extremely unusual!
