I got several small lilac divisions a few years ago and a couple of them flowered for the first time this year. I figured out one variety but not sure what this one is called. Buds are light pink, open light pink-lavender and fade almost to a lavender-white color.

It's beautiful! I love lilac and the sweet fragrance!
Unfortunately, this one cannot be grown here in San Diego, CA...it's much too warm in winter.

I love lilacs too but I know many of them cannot be grown in warmer areas because they have a "chill requirement" to set flower buds. There are a couple types of lilacs I've heard will grow in warm areas, do you know if that is true?

I don't think so. Most plants which have the common name "lilac" are not true lilacs. For example: Jamaican lilic...it's actually Cornutia grandifolia, which is tropical. It's not a species of Syringa.

Beautiful! But this is lilac. Definitely. Looks like S. vulgaris Dwight Eisenhower, a common sort in Slovakia.

I knew it was Syringa vulgaris but without seeing a tag it can be tough figuring out which cultivar it is. The aged flowers look similar to Dwight Eisenhower but didn't have multi petals or the light bluish-violet color
