I always thought this was a campanula but probably not as it has been in flower for a few weeks and all the campanulas listed flower later. Flourishes between the crazy paving but will not grow in garden. Friends have tried as well with seeds, & plants pulled out.

Hywel, I should have mentioned on pic that this one is around 12" tall. Its really pretty and now have quite large clumps. Annoying that it will not grow elsewhere.

Stera, you would really enjoy this one. A friend and I tried for ages last year to discover type but gave up. I had c. alba for a year or so but it disappeared.

Do you think its cochlearifolia? I don't think so though.

Oh sorry ... lol :) It looks like the small rockery ones I've got :)

Hywel there are so many different varieties but I'm going to check out the one Stera has mentioned. The short one on my rockery has spread widely and impossible to remove, still it does stop weeds :)
Stera I'll get back to you.

Stera I spent time looking on line and its not cochlearifolia although the flowers look identical but not the leaves. I'm now sure its persicifolia. They say grows to over 3ft but mine grows to 12" max and it is very pretty - like harebells.

Hywel have finally traced the campanula pretty sure its persicifolia.

Hywel, So pleased to have found the name. A white one would be nice I think.

All the same I don't think it is persicifolia - I have grown that and its habit is quite different. It is always taller and its other name is nettle leaved bellflower because of the shape of its leaves. Its hard to see the habit in the close ups on google but it grows up on quite stout long stems and doesn't really look like harebells when you see it growing. There are so many its hard isn't it. Yes please I would love a bit when its finished flowering if you remember. Shall I send you my details now or wait until its time to divide it?

Stera - I just don't believe it!!! Was so sure problem solved so will have to start again. On next trip to Hopleys will ask the the owner & see if he recognises it.

Stera when looking up something else in an old gardening book I came across C.persicifolia and it did look very much like mine. A mystery!
